01
The problem
Most budgeting apps greet new users with a spreadsheet in disguise. Ledgerly’s early numbers showed it: one in three people abandoned onboarding before connecting an account, and those who stayed rarely opened the app twice in a week.
02
The approach
I interviewed twelve users about the last time they felt in control of money. The answer was never a chart, it was a sentence: you are fine until Friday. We rebuilt the product around that idea, testing paper flows first and clickable prototypes before polishing a pixel.
03
The solution
A weekly view that opens on one calm number, safe to spend, with detail one tap away. Onboarding shrank from nine screens to four, in plain language instead of banking jargon. A small component library kept iOS, Android and web feeling like one product. Empty states and error messages got the same care as the headline screens, because that is where trust is won.
